JTA Public & Community Health JTA International

JTA’s public and community health activities range from targeted disease interventions to strengthening existing community health services. We deliver public and community health programs in remote locations, often supporting Indigenous communities and our programs are designed with specific cultural and geographic context in mind.

JTA provides public and community health services to a range of clients. Public and private sector clients we have worked with include the Australian Department of Health and Ageing, the Office for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, local health services in Australia’s Cape York and a number of mining operations and national governments across the Pacific.

Current activities we are involved in include the Australian Nurse Family Partnership Program for which JTA is the contracted Support Service. The program supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and women pregnant with an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander child through pregnancy and up until their child is 2 years old.

Outside of Australia, JTA is delivering public and community health programs through our development activities across the Pacific and on behalf of private sector clients. In 2004 we advocated for an increased focus on public health activities for communities surrounding the Ok Tedi mine in Papua New Guinea. This program has since rolled out to a district-wide level. We are also implementing the Lihir Islands Community Health Program in Papua New Guinea which is strengthening community health services, including preventative health programs, across the Lihir islands.
