While the global AIDS epidemic is gradually slowing down, incidences of HIV/AIDS are rising in some regions, particularly in developing countries. Stopping and reversing the spread of HIV/AIDS is a key United Nations Millennium Development Goal and research and experience shows that strong government leadership, long-term funding and long term planning are key to halting the epidemic.
JTA International actively works to mainstream HIV/AIDS issues into all of our projects and activities, as outlined in the JTAI HIV/AIDS Policy and Guidelines. We address HIV/AIDS issues in all project planning and activities and have supported a number of initiatives throughout the Asia-Pacific region. JTA is a member of the Asia Pacific Business Coalition on AIDS (APBCA) and the PNG Business Coalition Against HIV & AIDS (BAHA).
Other HIV/AIDS activities include: HIV/AIDS awareness education and training; development of work place policies; high risk settings strategies; condom distribution; voluntary counselling and testing (VCT); treatment of sexually transmitted infections (STIs); HIV/AIDS treatment and care programmes, mother to child transmission programs and collaborative research into community belief systems surrounding HIV/AIDS.
